Disney Ticket Basics: Everything You Need to Know

When you visit Walt Disney World, you’ll have a lot of ticket options: Base tickets, park hoppers, water parks? It can be a little confusing. Here are the basics you need to know:

You start with a Base Ticket:

A base ticket will get you into one park per day. You may go in and out of that park as many times as you want, however.  There’s no requirement to go to any certain park each day. For example, you may buy a 4-day base ticket and go to the Magic Kingdom all four days, or you may visit all four parks during your stay . Or, you could be completely crazy and go to Animal Kingdom all four days (no one does this, seriously).   Basically, you can mix it up any way you like.

A Hopper Option Let’s You Visit More Than One Park Per Day:

This option, which costs around $60 per ticket regardless of whether it’s a 2-day ticket or a 10-day ticket, let’s you go to as many parks as you like per day. The question of whether or not it’s the right option for you is debatable, however. Make sure you’ll use it before you add this option–a lot of guests find “hopping” exhausting.

Water Parks Fun & More Option:

This allows you to visit Disney’s two water parks and DisneyQuest during your visit.  So say you buy a 4-day ticket. You’ll get  four days of Disney theme parks AND four days of Disney water parks. This is a great way to extend the value of your ticket, but it can be expensive so make sure you’ll use it–and that it will be warm enough to swim when you’re visiting. We often recommend adding this option after you arrive just to make sure.

A Couple More Pointers:

  • Each ticket is good 14 days from the first day of use.
  • You may upgrade your ticket any time during the 14 day window as long as there is at least one day remaining on your ticket.
  • Make sure you bring the credit card you bought your tickets with when you visit. If you lose your ticket, just show them the card and they are easily replaced.

Those are the basics–now get out there and have a good time!
